How Room Assignments Are Processed
The Housing Assignment Office manages over 16,000 student accounts for room assignments every fall semester, which takes approximately 12 weeks to manage. Room assignments are processed in random order, without regard to when a student accepted the offer of admission. When a student's account was reviewed, their requested housing preferences were considered. However, due to high demand and limited availability, not all students could be placed in a room assignment that matched their requests. In such cases, students were assigned to the next available space. For example, almost 6,700 students indicated a preference for East Halls, which offers less than 5,000 spaces. Students who attended summer session do not receive priority for placement.
What to Do Next
Get Acquainted
Reach out to your roommate and start getting to know each other! It’s a great time to coordinate who’s bringing what to campus. Please be patient in trying to communicate - many students may not be able to respond immediately.
No Roommate Listed?
If you don’t see a roommate listed yet, don’t worry - the Housing Assignment Office is still finalizing placements. A roommate will be assigned before fall arrival.
Learn About Your Space
On the My Room page in eLiving, select Explore your room to view an interactive model, take measurements and virtually arrange furniture! No more guessing about how many inches are between the bed and floor.
Curious about your assigned building or room layout? Visit the LiveOn Housing website to explore detailed pages for each residence hall. This includes building amenities, room types and layouts, approximate measurements, and photos of common areas and student rooms.
Pro Tip: not assigned to the housing area that you requested? Don't stress - you are still going to have a great experience! Each housing area offers their own unique experience and benefits - keep a positive attitude while you prepare for Arrival. You'll be able to make the space 'yours'. Many students end up loving where they live and wouldn't change their experience!
Interested in a Different Room?
The Housing Assignment staff is unable to process room changes for students - all available space has been allocated and there may be students waiting for a room assignment. Students who wish to change their assignment can use the Room Exchange eBoard through eLiving. The eBoard provides the ability for students to process a direct room switch with another student, or post their room on the eBoard to swap with someone else. The eBoard is available once assignments are posted and will remains active noon Tuesday, Aug. 5.
Get Ready to LiveOn
All students need to Schedule Move-In, which is based the date/time that they plan to arrive to campus - you can Move-In on any date that works for you! While the official Arrival days are Thursday, Aug. 21 through Saturday, Aug. 23, Early Arrival is available Monday, Aug. 18 - Wednesday, Aug. 20. Visit the Arrival website to view the Housing Arrival Schedule, review what to pack, check your to-do list, and how to prepare for your actual Arrival day. Schedule Move-In is a critical component to the Arrival process, as it allows students to easily use the self-check-in feature when they arrive to campus.
