Simmons Hall

simmons exterior

Simmons Hall is named after Lucretia Van Tuyl Simmons, who after earning a master's degree from Penn State went on to become a faculty member, the Dean of Women, and eventually the head of the German department.

Simmons Hall, built in 1948, is a classic traditional residence hall. Home to the Schreyer Honors College, Simmons Hall offers students an abundant amount of study and social spaces, including living areas, recreation room, kitchen, and laundry room. Simmons Hall bedrooms feature fixed and flexible furniture that allows students to arrange their room in a few different ways. The building is single gender by wing or floor with communal bathrooms that offers multiple toilet stalls, sinks, and private showers on each floor and are shared by the residents living on the wing or floor. Simmons Hall is located in South Halls near the White BuildingHUB-Robeson Center, and in close proximity to downtown State College.

Redifer Commons supports students living in South Halls.

Schreyer Honors College - The GLOBE

The GLOBE is a Living Learning Community for students in the Schreyer Honors College. It seeks to form a close-knit community of globally minded individuals who have the desire to foster global awareness and an international perspective. It aims to expand on the initiatives of the Schreyer Honors College by:

  • Fostering respect and awareness for the world and its diverse people
  • Contributing to international progress by developing a network for future collaborations
  • Building an inclusive community of Scholars that embraces different mindsets and encourages personal and academic growth

A wide range of student-originated events throughout the year support these goals. A points system based on organizing and participating in events throughout the year is used to determine renewal in The GLOBE after the first year. Starting in Fall 2025, a secondary application is no longer required. Unlike the overall Schreyer Honors College LLC (see above ), The GLOBE is limited to Schreyer Scholars.
