New Contactless Card Readers Provide Greater Convenience and Security

Penn State is excited to offer new contactless card readers at student apartments, suites, and bedrooms, making access more convenient and secure while saving students lost room key fees. This initiative is a three-year project that will continue through 2025.

During summer 2023, almost 4500 locks were installed at Beaver, Behrend, Greater Allegheny, Harrisburg, Mont Alto, and East Halls at University Park. In summer 2024, lock installations occurred at Abington, Brandywine, Schuylkill, and Eastview, Nittany, and South Halls at University Park. The project will complete with installations at the Altoona, Berks, Hazleton, and University Park during summer 2025.

Students at locations with contactless card readers can use their iPhone, Apple Watch or Android phone to access campus buildings and rooms. For more information and instructions for setting up a mobile credential, visit idcard.psu.edu/mobile.
