Penn State Mont Alto is nestled on 91 wooded acres in Mont Alto, a few minutes from Chambersburg. The campus is the site of an iron furnace, opened in 1806 by ironmasters—the Hughes Brothers. In 1903 the Pennsylvania State Forest Academy opened on the location. Twenty-six years later, the academy became part of Penn State, serving as the first-year campus for forestry students.

Mont Alto Hall is a traditional residence hall with two students per room and community bathrooms on each wing. The building features a large lobby with a modern community kitchen and lounge for studying or relaxing. A game room and study rooms are also conveniently available in the building.
